The Endless Yard

Question 1

Do I need to be an experienced ultra runner?

Accepted Answer

No. The Endless Yard welcomes runners with different levels of experience.

You should be appropriately trained and prepared for an endurance running event, but you don't need to have completed an ultra before entering.

Question 2

How far do I have to run?

Accepted Answer

As far as you're able to keep going.

Every yard is 6.7056 km. You must complete each yard within the hour and be ready to start again on the next hour.

Question 3

What happens if I don't finish a lap in time?

Accepted Answer

Your race ends. A yard must be completed within the allotted hour to count.

Question 4

Can I stop whenever I want?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can decide to withdraw after completing any yard.

Please report your withdrawal to race control before leaving.

Question 5

Can I walk?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You can run, jog or walk, provided you complete the yard in time and follow the race rules.

Question 6

Can my crew support me?

Accepted Answer

Yes, between yards in the designated support area.

Crews cannot accompany you on the course or provide personal assistance during a yard.

Question 7

Can someone pace me?

Accepted Answer

No. Pacing by non-participants, including runners who have already withdrawn, is not allowed.

Question 8

What happens if the race continues overnight?

Accepted Answer

The event continues with the same hourly start procedure and the same route.

You must follow the mandatory lighting and safety requirements.

Question 9

Is there a maximum number of hours?

Accepted Answer

No. The Endless Yard follows the open-ended backyard ultra format.

The race continues until the winner completes one final yard after all other runners have stopped, subject to necessary safety interventions.

Question 10

Do I have to enter all three races?

Accepted Answer

No. You can enter any individual event.

If you enter more than one race, your completed yards contribute to your total in the season championship.

Question 11

How is the championship decided?

Accepted Answer

The season champion is the runner who accumulates the highest number of completed yards across the three 2027 events.

Question 12

Does everyone get a finishers medal?

Accepted Answer

In an official backyard ultra, only one runner wins and all other runners are recorded as DNF, with their completed yard totals recognised.

The Endless Yard has a separate milestone award system for runners who voluntarily finish at designated distances.

Question 13

How do the milestone medals work?

Accepted Answer

A runner who voluntarily stops after exactly 7, 12 or 24 completed yards is eligible for the corresponding milestone medal.

You cannot claim an earlier milestone medal if you continue running beyond it.

Question 14

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

You'll need appropriate running shoes, clothing for the conditions, night-running lights, food, hydration and any personal equipment you require between yards.

The final mandatory kit list will be shared before the event.

Question 15

Can spectators attend?

Accepted Answer

Of course!

Crew and spectator arrangements, including parking and access restrictions, will be confirmed in the event information.

Question 16

What happens if I become pregnant after entering?

Accepted Answer

We offer participants affected by pregnancy or postpartum recovery a choice of a free entry deferral for up to two years or a full refund. You can find the full details in our Pregnancy & Postpartum Policy.

Question 17

Can I breastfeed or express milk at the event?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We welcome breastfeeding athletes and can discuss suitable facilities and access arrangements for your baby and carer. Please contact us before race day so we can plan around your needs.

Question 18

Will period products and private changing facilities be available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Free period products will be available at basecamp, along with appropriate toilet and private changing provision. Details will be included in the participant information.

Question 19

What if I experience harassment or feel unsafe?

Accepted Answer

Please speak to a member of our event team or contact our designated welfare lead. We take all concerns seriously and have a no-tolerance approach to harassment and inappropriate behaviour.
